We work with some of the biggest names in sport, sporting governing bodies, the travel and tourism industry, NGOs and the general public to end these forms of violence.
In advance of the Paris 2024 Olympics & Paralympics, It’s a Penalty are launching our latest campaign to raise awareness and make a significant impact in combatting human trafficking and exploitation, not only in Paris but also across France and globally throughout the duration of the Games.

Human trafficking and exploitation is a major issue in France and globally:

According to a survey carried out in 2022 by 69 associations on 2,675 victims they support in France, 76% of them suffer from sexual exploitation, 15% from exploitation at work, 7% are forced to commit crimes , 2% are forced to beg.
In France, out of 1,518 suspects prosecuted for exploitation or human trafficking, 60% were French Nationals
Worldwide, 50 million people are trapped in modern slavery and human trafficking.

WHAT IS HUMAN TRAFFICKING?

Human trafficking is a global crime that trades in people and exploits them for profit. People of all genders, ages and backgrounds can become victims of this crime, which occurs in every region of the world.

The exploitation of women, men and children can take many forms that are punishable by law: sexual exploitation, domestic slavery, forced begging, forced labour, coercion to commit crimes, forced marriage, etc

KNOW THE SIGNS

Human trafficking and exploitation is happening in our communities and the places we visit, often hidden.

Some common signs of human trafficking and exploitation include:

Do not have control of their identity or travel documents.
Appear to be monitored or controlled by another person when talking or interacting with others.
Unsure of where they are or how long they are staying.
Change in behaviour, unexplained gifts, withdrawn or secretive.
Paris 2024 Campaign
Not all signs listed are present in every human trafficking situation, and the presence or absence of any of the indicators is not necessarily proof of human trafficking.
In all cases, if you suspect human trafficking or exploitation is taking place, it is important to turn to specialised associations who will be able to guide you in taking action without putting yourself in danger.
