2023 #KEEPKIDSSAFE CAMPAIGN
2023 #KEEPKIDSSAFE CAMPAIGN
High profile cases of young athletes being abused whilst competing have drawn attention to the issue of child protection in sports all over the world.
From 20th July-20th August 2023, Australia and Aotearoa New Zealand hosted the FIFA Women’s World Cup. Our global Campaign harnessed the platform of the Women’s Football to highlight the importance of child protection and safeguarding, particularly in sport. The campaign was inspired by the belief that more widespread education to #KEEPKIDSSAFE from harm is needed for children themselves, parents and caregivers, sports institutions and coaches, and the general public.
Our campaign aims were to:
EDUCATE
EQUIP
ENCOURAGE
CAMPAIGN ACTIVITIES
On 6th July in Sydney, our Supporting Partner ICMEC Australia hosted the Global Launch for the Women’s World Cup Campaign, bringing together the sports and travel and tourism industry, businesses, child protection experts and media, to highlight the importance of child protection from sexual exploitation and abuse, and the link between safeguarding, sport and business.
Our 30-second campaign film fronted by Kyah Simon, Striker – Australia; Mary Earps, Goalkeeper – England; Rafaelle Souza, Defender – Brazil; Ria Percival, Defender – New Zealand; Lydia Williams, Goalkeeper – Australia raised awareness about keeping kids safe, particularly in sport.
International airlines – British Airways, Emirates, Cathay Pacific and Air New Zealand – showed the campaign in-flight from July-August to reach a global audience.
Digital posters raising awareness and educating about child safeguarding were shown at 3 airports throughout Australia and New Zealand: Sydney, Brisbane and Hamilton.
Targeted social media messaging campaign educated and raised awareness both on-the-ground in Australia and New Zealand, and globally.
Local sports clubs and organisations across Australia and New Zealand were encouraged to improve safeguarding of children from exploitation and abuse, in line with the International Safeguards for Children in Sport.
Our partnership with the Oceania Football Confederation widened the reach of the campaign across the Pacific region through community engagement at local football events and tournaments.
